Okay here we go - Down to seven, and someone thought it would be a good idea to bring back Quintan Tarantino. Okay, whatev. It's definitely a bad idea to have Simon not comment on every performer. (but a blessing in disguise is that the same is true of Paula)
Here are my notes on the seven and their stuff - as short as possible. I have a lot to do this week.
Allison - "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing" - Great pick for her, though the curse of going first is tough. This song hung out too long in her lower register for her to be dynamic. Great ending.
Anoop - "Everything I Do" - I hate this song. What is with the jacket? Can't deny his vocal ability, I just can't get into it fully.
Adam - "Born to be Wild" - Freakshow. Love it. His control over his voice is crazy. Everytime he starts one of these I'm totally not buying the cheese, but by the middle, I'm totally cheddar.
Matt - "To Really Love a Woman" - Loved the top, hated the middle part - the bridge brought some fire back, at the expense of some notes, but the middle was all bossanova snoring. He's in trouble.
Danny - "Endless Love" - I really liked that one. He made a bit of a recovery from the previous vanilla weeks.
Kris - "Falling Slowly" - This is easily the best written song tonight, and he did a great job with it. He doesn't even make me want to make a Muppet joke about him.
Lil' - "The Rose" - I wonder if Bette Midler is as untouchable as other Divas in this competition? The tempo is too slow in the first part for my taste. I think this song lyrically connects more to her personally and so it seems to be more something that she can sell honestly, where as some of her other stuff has just seemed put on. A little old fashioned perhaps, but let's face it - she's a married mother of three.
So who's going home? I think the bottom three is probably Lil', Matt and Anoop. After that, it's anyone's guess...
