So... here was my yesterday, apparently Dave Ferguson had been twittering about it all afternoon yesterday. Ha. Laughing. Like things. Not funny.
Anyway, Dave and I were off to the city yesterday on a very tight schedule to try and shoot a short film for this weekend's services. The schedule was tight because Dave needed to get back in time for an afternoon cross country race his son was competing in. So we left at 11:30am and Dave needed to leave the city no later than 3:15.
We got onto the expressway and my car overheats. Nice. I exit on 355 and head to Butterfield with the heat on high (it was 95 degrees yesterday, but I refuse to complain about that because I grew up in Phoenix, and give me a break). Randy was our Mobil station attendant who got us going again, but it then required that we head back home and switch cars. So we did. I think we finally got back to the city by 1:45. Found the place to shoot and tried to begin. It was hot, but no biggie.
Now the fun begins, as the wireless mics seemed to be gathering interference from all sorts of attennas and what not - to the point that every time we tried to record a full take of one scene, there would be gigantic buzzes and crackles. Not a single take was immune from the interference, but because we had no time to waste, we couldn't troubleshoot any more than just hoping it wouldn't happen again. All of a sudden, it was 3:15pm and time for Dave to leave. I had the pleasure of staying in the city to interview Anna Gonzalez from our Pilsen campus, which was the only great part of my trip. But that wasn't until 5pm, so I hung out until then at a marvelous mexican grill. Dave drove my functioning car home, and then I took a train home by 7pm.
Dave later called to inform me that the race he was racing to attend was canceled. Due to inclement weather. I walked home in the rain, defeated.
We regrouped at 6:30am this morning to fix it all and get a plan B in action. I think we did so, and it will work. We are nothing if we are not MacGuyveresque. But now, I am really tired. I still have to edit this thing!
