Okay - here is my one sentence summing up of the guys last night:
It was a lot better, but wasn't good enough to beat the girls last week, much less whatever they do tonight...
So now, a little bit more detail on the ladies, who were so good last week that they deserve their own eddyfications breakdown from yours truly, even though we are not at the top twelve yet. And yes, I make my comments before the judges do so... Consider it an early Christmas present, ladies...
Gina - Naperville girl - breaking out the Heart. and the red dress? She's pushing I'm afraid. And sharp.
Alaina - I feel pretty, not so witty, this song ate her up. I don't like the Dixie Chicks, but if I did, I'd be so angry at her attempt at singing it.
LaKisha - Remember when Paris Hilton sang Midnight Train to Georgia? Me neither. I hope she gets into the top two - she is phenomenal.
Melinda - Okay, a little turned off by the Oprah/Gayle reference. I'm not sure about this song for her. She's good, but LaKisha is so much better in the same category. Started snoring by the end, even with as hard as she was working...
Antonella - Several sharp notes, better than last week. The high note almost seemed to work. It's not good enough to win this thing, but she might survive one more week with that one. Assuming it's actually her and not an imposter...
Jordin - She is so smart to pick songs that are mature without being too adult - she ends up playing older and yet you can't believe that she's 17. A little shaky every now and then, but she is the most solid "younger" performer they've ever had on the show.
Stephanie - I think she did very well, but I think that the patterned/syncopated singing that Beyonce does is pretty hard to duplicate or make her own, so you end up sounding somewhat stuttery. I'll be really interested to hear what the judges say about song selection. But that last note was the bomb.
Leslie - So she's doing the song A.J. did - copycat? She's going home, as a punishment for that nightmarish scatting. No good, no good.
Haley - Great outfit - great hair. Unfortunately, this is one big act, not real at all - and the people who are voting purely on the looks of the hot white girls don't have enough reason to vote for her.
Sabrina - She was good with an essentially forgettable song. I don't know if it's just that there were too many ballads tonight, but this one just doesn't stick with me.
This is the most lucid I've seen Paula in a few years. This week I not only understood what she was saying, but I also understood what she was saying. She seems taller when she's not on the meds. ***Addendum*** Paula's starting to lose it.
So the judges loved Melinda and I didn't. I think it's because that I don't really buy her humble act. Simon went on and on about her breath of fresh air, but every time she shrugs her shoulders and looks at them like a puppy dog, I just can't buy it - I want to smack her.
Quote of the night: Simon on Haley: "it was a little bit manic verging on insane at one point..."
There you have it. Bramlett OUT.
