The Phoenix Suns send Shawn Marion (and Marcus Banks) to Miami for Shaq. Wow. I actually think that this is going to work for the Suns. I talked to someone inside the Suns organization (via a friend of a friend) today and whatever chemistry problems the Suns may have right now even though they are atop the Western Conference record-wise, seems to have been Marion and Banks related. If that's true, then good riddance to Shawn, who was going to leave after next season anyway.
And now this potentially gives us the chance to watch defenses freak out as they try to decide whether to guard Shaq, Amare, or stay home on Bell, Hill, or Nash. Yummy! We just need Shaq to be healthy for the last half of the season to get a feel for whether or not he can run or will need a walker...
In the end, I wish that Marion had felt more appreciated, because he was a great asset to the Suns for a number of years. He will be missed to a point, but once someone goes down the road of not feeling appreciated, it is almost impossible to bring them back over to the other side. Any effort in that category ends up not being enough. And as bad theoretically as Shaq has been this year thru injury, his stats are very similar lines when side by side with Marion, particularly points and rebounds.
And my final thought on this trade is this: When it comes to fan based sports, Seinfeld was right: In the end, we're all just rooting for laundry. Go Suns Jerseys!
13-1 Red Sox. Wow. So much for the Rockies' win streak. I'm glad it's not me. Can they get it together long enough to make it interesting?
So I'm even more tired after two nights in a row of staying up late to watch Cubs losses. I think that the loss heightens the tired factor. I'm sure I would have a lot more energy right now if I were basking in the glow of a 1-1 split.
But I'm not nearly as cranky as I was. Fortune has smiled on me and I will be able to attend in person Game 3 - a free ticket! Which may be the last game of the season, unless Rich Hill and my screaming like a crazy person have anything to say about it.
Go Cubs! Stay Strong! Hit the ball!
I'm tired and cranky. The Cubs folded in a close game, and everyone on sports talk radio in Chicago is talking about whether Lou did the right thing by pulling Zambrano out, which is silly since it's obvious that he didn't, since we lost after he did. I'm not saying he shouldn't have done it again, but the real problem was that our first five went 1-20. Zambrano should have been kept in if only because he was the only one with a two-base hit.
All right, gotta gear myself up for the next nightcap. Into hibernation I go!
Go Cubs!
There has been a lot of whining about the late start of tonight's Cubs game. As a Phoenix Suns fan in the Midwest (and not a Dbacks fan, they arrived after I left), I have had to deal with the 9, 930 and 10pm start time for games for some time now. Here's a helpful hint...
Take a nap. Seriously. Around 7:30, or 8:15 - give yourself a good 45 minute nap. I know that you think that you won't need it, or that you'll sleep too long. But you won't. You're too excited for the game. So get something to eat and get a little shut-eye before Zambrano starts posting some Xs...
Go Cubs!!!!
Has it been awesome the last month or so or WHAT?!?!?!?
Gotta love 'em. You can try to stop them, try to break a bat and spin it in the pitcher's face, but he's still going to get the out. Tonight they head to the nation's capital to keep the thing going - I think this summer's going to be a lot of fun...
Well, this weekend is what it's all about for Cubs fans. The Brew Crew comes in and the Cubs need to show that their win streak isn't just a fluke, or just what happens when you play really bad teams (White Sox fans care for rebuttle?)...
Who knows - we could walk out of this weekend series AT or OVER .500!!! It's our year, can't ya feel it?!?!?!
Lebron James is turning into Michael Jordan BEFORE OUR EYES. And he does it against the Pistons, to further the irony. Wow.
