The real American Idol Girls post

You'd think I would have learned my lesson... oh well... here it is again... for the first time....

Okay, here are my quick thoughts about the ladies:

Carly Smithson: wow. She hit those notes. Wow again.

Syesha Mercado: switching gender on love songs bothers me, she's still good but this was kind of blah for me.

Brooke White: big mistake to sing carly, because now we see how much she pales in comparison...

Ramiele Malubay: maybe I'm just tired but this is boring.

Kristy Lee Cook: this looks like a shampoo commercial. Good but not great.

Amanda Overmyer: this is a bad idea. Really exposed her as a one-note wonder... Going home...

Alaina Whitaker: oversang it a bit.

Alexandrea: Boring.

Kady Malloy: she's pretty and good but sings like she smells something bad.

Asia'h Epperson: Her hair shouldn't be straight. She can't control it tonight, going home tomorrow...

The Real American Idol post

Okay so I was using my crackberry to post my American Idol thoughts, and obviously, it didn't work. So using the age old technology of cut and paste... Boy, that was a funny post. Must have been typing in tongues...

Here are my quick thoughts regarding the guys from American Idol tonight...

Michael Johns: pushing too hard to hit the chorus.

Jason Castro: sorry I don't get this guy's appeal.

Luke Menard: booooring. Paper thin vox.

Robbie Carrico: Bad pick for a song from Foreigner. My wife thinks his long locks are a wig...

Danny Noriega: is he a girl or is he a boring?

David Hernandez: papa was a rolling sharp... Still a great pick for a song...

Jason Yeager: he looks like Chet from Weird Science.

Chikezie: has anyone ever heard this song before? I love his smile, but who cares.

David Cook: I like the Electric guitar, I must say, but he's still a poser.

David Archulletta: this kid is a genius. Throw out all comers and give him the prize.

Pictures of the Guitar Hero contest

Thanks to Marie at the Evolve Conference for the quick turnaround on these photos. I think you'll be able to see how I differed from my competition. See how Dave is closely examining the screen, and I have long since stopped trying to look at it, and moved into fully rocking out. look at the glee from the hosts as their vision of a Guitar Hero contest comes to fruition. Sell it baby, sell it!

American Idol - 12 chicks

American Idol: The ladies! Here are my thoughts regarding tonight’s performances. Again, before the judges say whatev, and I’m going to be as brief as possible given the number…

1. Kristy Lee Cook: Rescue Me: Too much mascara, boring song… not impressed.

2. Joanne Borgella: Say A Little Prayer: Not long for this competition I’m afraid…

3. Alaina Whitaker: More Today Than Yesterday: First one to sing goodish so far

4. Amanda Overmyer: Baby Please Don’t Go: Great entrance. She rocks but just that one note.

5. Amy Davis: Where The Boys Are: Is it possible to be sharp and flat at the same time?

6. Brooke White: Happy Together: Her hair is trying to mop her face off. Not sure about her.

7. Alexandrea Lushington: Spinning Wheel: TLC called and want their look back. But she’s got a pretty good voice.

8. Kady Malloy: Groovy Kind of Love: She’d have the whole package if she was in any way good looking. Oh well, maybe next year.

9. Asia’h Epperson: Take a Piece of My Heart: She’s like a hybrid of SALT and PEPA. She’s like SALPA. Good performance.

10. Ramiele Malubay: Her hair looks ironed too, but without David Cook’s Male Pattern Baldness. She can do it.

11. Syesha Mercado: Tobacco Road: She’s one of my favorites already.

12. Carly Smithson: Morticia called and wants her hairdo back. Girl got pipes.

That’s my story and I’m sticking to it…

Evolve Conference - Post the Second

Okay, so here's the deal on Guitar Hero. I was originally scheduled to play on Tuesday morning. The team producing the event realized early on that they needed to speed this thing through - so I found out an hour beforehand that I would be competing on Monday afternoon.

I knew that if my guy was any good at all, I would be toast. I couldn't do medium very well. But I had practiced, as my babysitter from Saturday night lent me her copy of the game for playstation. But it wasn't enough. So I knew I had to win over the audience with style points. It wouldn't be hard, because all of the other competitors were completely immersed in their screen and the game - it was like having a hidden camera on a geek-festival gameday. Boring.

Fortunately, the song was "Carry on My Wayward Son" by Kansas. If you know the song, it begins with an acapella chorus. No guitar. So I belted it out in full voice, without a microphone in sight - I sold it like I sell the new leader songs, and the crowd wents nuts. It was awesome.

And then I proceeded to tank on Guitar Hero. Lost the round. Out of the competition.

But, I was shredding the whole time, shaking my guitar and mimicking every face I saw Gene Simmons ever make while playing for Kiss. Even when they called it, and they declared my opponent the winner or the round, I held my fake guitar in hand high in the air in triumph, as though I had in fact been victorious. And when it comes down to it, audience reaction is the greatest victory in a setting like that. So I consider myself wildly successful.

Oh, and the breakout workshops I led about The Big Idea seemed to go well too.

American Idol - 12 guys

Every year I blog about American Idol, and this year is no exception. So here goes! We begin the voting portion of the show, and again, I’m disappointed that the “Hollywood” week only lasts a week’s worth of episodes. They could easily stretch that portion over two weeks to feature all potential 24 candidates. As it is, there are many that we have yet to get to know. But here we are, and now that we are here, I will be offering up my opinions regarding the competition. Tonight, brevity is the soul of wit, so I’ll keep it short (as always, I comment before hearing the judges’ feedback):

1. David Hernandez: In the Midnight Hour. Great voice, robot face. Milktoast.

2. Chikezie: More Than Yesterday. Low register is no good. Nervous Nellie. Jacuzzi.

3. David Cook: So Happy Together. His hair looks ironed. He’s like an ugly dude who’s convinced people that he’s attractive.

4. Jason Yeager: Moon River. Just this side of Disney, but good.

5. Robbie Carrico: One is the Loneliest Number. The Daughtry hangover effect. Snore.

6. David Archuletta: Shop Around. He’s great. Young, talented. Best so far.

7. Danny Noriega: Jailhouse Rock. Really? He's FABulous!

8. Luke Menard: Everybody’s Talkin. He was great on 90120. Falsett-no.

9. Colton Berry: Suspicious Minds. Clap clap clap-clap-clap let’s go bo-ring.

10. Garrett Haley: Breaking Up Is Hard to Do. He’s the new Sanjaya, with slightly better vocals.

11. Jason Castro: Daydream. He was great as the cheerleader in Heroes. Not a big fan.

12. Michael Johns: Light My Fire. He was great in The Lost Boys. Great song pick, he’s the real deal.

Tomorrow, we listen to the girls!
