My mom thinks that because I haven't blogged in a while, I might be out of town. Truth is, this is one of the ways my mom keeps up with whatever the heck I'm doing each week. I've been a little lax. Sorry, mom.
I went to see MuteMath on Tuesday with a bunch of CCCers. First time I've seen them in concert, and they are truly something not to be missed. It's pretty rare that a band is good in the studio and then good live for completely different reasons. Usually when someone says "You should REALLY see them live" then you can count on their CD being brutal. But MuteMath plays and writes and records interesting music, and their live show is completely compelling without taking away from that creativity. That's pretty impressive. It's like being able to offer multiple experiences as the same entity. I was impressed.
Then this weekend brought all sorts of preparation for 70s week at CCC. Elic and I sang "Stayin' Alive" and we all did "the hustle" as a prelude. I was most nervous about playing the synth, because it's not something I do much. It went okay, I simplified some things so that I could dress up like a freak and do the same hand motions that Elic was doing during the song. If you didn't see it live, it was kind of like a MuteMath concert, but with wigs and 70s garb. (note: I had to find a costume to wear; Elic pulled his 70s garb completely from HIS OWN WARDROBE...)
And now we're on to the Big Idea Practicum. I just got finished putting together a compilation of video footage from two weeks of services, showing back to back to back the adult, kids and students components of the Big Idea. It's pretty cool to see them all lined up together. I'll post them as soon as I can. We've got a bunch of churches coming into town today to see what we do and figure out a way to do it themselves. Should be cool. Especially looking forward to meeting the guys from elem3nt church, mainly because that's how they spell their church name. I'm not even joking.
I suppose i could have just called Mom and told her all this, but aren't you glad I shared with the rest of the class?
